GOOD NEWS from York, Pennsylvania
June 2007

Dear Friends,

The past month has been a very busy one in promoting our church in the community. We had the youth group from Grifton FWB Church from NC to come up and help knock on many doors in our area. (They visited for 4 hours!) They also provided the special music for us during our Sunday service. What a blessing they were to us!

On the last Saturday of the month, our church was involved with "Saturday At The Park" sponsored by our local township.  We were thrilled to have four of the guys who were in our youth group at Union Chapel in Chocowinity, NC, now at Gateway Christian College in VA Beach, VA, (Tim, Kevin, Ryan & Chase) and also a precious young lady (Jessica), who is now married to Tim, to come and help us with Saturday's activities.  As we tied some 1000 balloon animals and painted at least as many faces, we were able to meet a lot of the families in our local area. Some of these folks were, of course, new to us, but some we recognized (or they recognized us) because they were some of the many contacts we have in the months we have been here. The Lord gave to us such a beautiful day, and we can't wait to see how He is going to use it for His glory! Thank you for your continued prayers and support for this ministry.

We love you.  Allen, Jenny and Allison

Jenny’s Journal

I will never forget one of the services we held while we were on itinerate.  Allen and I had concluded our presentation of our burden for York that included a devotion, the story of John 3:16 and an invitation.  While speaking, I had noticed a lady sitting in a wheelchair toward the front of the church who had listened intently throughout the entire service.  Even though it seemed she might not have a lot of worldly possessions, she had the joy of the Lord on her face.

After Allen sat down, the pastor of the church stood and requested that the ushers come forward to receive an offering.  The lady in the wheelchair again caught my eye as she awkwardly reached back for her purse.  I cannot adequately describe the feeling I had at that moment.  “Oh, no, Lord,” I prayed as I quickly bowed my head to hide my tears and stifle the sobs.  “Don’t let her put anything in the offering plate.  I am sure that she needs everything she has.  You can provide for our account some other way.  Please don’t let her put anything in.”  Then, in what seemed like an audible voice, the Lord spoke to my heart, “Just be worthy.  Be worthy of what I lay on her heart to give.”  “Okay, Lord,” I responded as I tried to regain control of my emotions.

I found out later that I was right about the lady in the wheelchair.  She does not have very much on this earth.  In fact, she wheels herself to church every Sunday.  I would venture to say, however, that her heavenly reward is immeasurable.

God used that precious lady’s obedience to teach me a very valuable lesson that Sunday night.  The verse Ephesians 4:1 comes to my mind often as we serve here in York, “I therefore . . . beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called.”  I pray that God will help me to “walk worthy” every day, and I pray that He will help you, too.
